HCIS: WHAT IS AN “ATS” SYTEM & HOW DOES IT WORK?
ATS stands for Applicant Tracking Software or Applicant Tracking System
It’s that software that can break it or make it once you press that “enter” button and submit an application.
So, before you can figure out how to craft your resume and look for that wow factor to impress your potential employer, it’s quite necessary to first “wow” the system and for you to be able to do so, you must first understand how does it work.
It’s quite simple actually despite the complexities involved
First the software removes all formatting from your CV and scans for specific recognized keywords and key phrases
Next, it sorts the content of your CV into categories such as:
- Contact Information
- Education
- Work Experience
- Skills
Then the employer’s list of desired skills and keywords are matched against the results of the CV to determine your potential value to the organization. Top matches are being moved up for further review.
All and all it’s simply a process where the software simply gives a score to your resume in order to determine which resumes will be moved up the ladder for an actual HR person to review.
So, now that you know how it works let’s see what you can do about it!
